WHERE DID YOU LOST YOUR MATHS FUN

  • Some of us started well with most of the subjects we were taught while some did not . What happen?
  • Some of us did well in Mathematics while some of us did not, what happened?
  • Mathematics was in easy subject for some through out Element schools while it was not same for some; what happened?
  • Some continued well through high school or secondary school till the end of their junior class and then senior class was different; what happened?
  • Some where able to stay on throughout secondary school but could not pas mathematics in their certificate examinations what happened?
  • Some conquered at the high school level but could not do well in colleges and universities, what happened?
  • Finally, some did not do well at lower levels but picked up at higher level, what happened?

This is article is an effort to encourage us as scholars from the primary education level to the tertiary level that whatever level we are, we can actually be good in mathematics. I will be discussing the challenges of mathematics at different levels of our educational life. After that is done I intend to let you know that you can overcome those challenges with the right mindset.

YOUR SYLLABUS AND YOU
According to the Longman dictionary of contemporary English ``syllabus is a plan that states exactly what students at a school or collage should learn in a particular subject’’. Based on this definition, educational bodies sit down to plan the syllabus for every class from the primary school to the secondary school and on the tertiary institutions. This means they will not include topics that are meant for senior classes in the syllabus of Junior classes. The point I am trying to bring out here is ``what ever topic you are taught at which ever class, provided it`s in the syllabus, you can understand and solve it’’ Mathematics is a mentality. If you think you can do it then you can do it.

INTRODUCTION TO THE MENTALITY

When we were young, we all loved the idea of going to school everyday and meeting friends, but most importantly we loved the idea of learning new things. Remember what it felt like when you first realized you could spell you name and you father's name. remember also the feelings of knowing you could recite the multiplication table and do some additions and subtractions. What wonderful moments they were. Personally I felt on top of the world like I had everything i could ever desire in this world. Coming home was fun, singing those wonderful school song and reciting all those sweet poems. Doing my assignment was really fun. the bottom line is everything about school was good and wonderful.

Then came the teacher who taught us the alphabets and the numbers. Then we started learning different things each day until we started adding up numbers and subtracting number and it was called Mathematics. We never knew the importance of this wonder subject until we grew up to realize we will be needing its knowledge in almost everything we will later do in life. For all that grew up with the wrong impression about this all important subject, help has come to you by reading this article and subsequent ones. you will soon see that maths is a mentality if you believe you can solve then you can.
